Works for Phase 1 of 3 at the Hydrogen Research Hub at @cranfielduni have officially commenced on site, starting with the implementation of reinforced concrete yard slabs! 🏗️

These works represent a crucial step in preparing the groundwork for the new single-storey building, which will house multiple test cells, control rooms, and utility areas. Wherever possible, sustainable solutions are being integrated into the project, with approaching site works including the installation of dry attenuation basins, filter drains, and a robust SuDS drainage strategy to efficiently manage surface water, reduce environmental impact, and ensure the long-term durability. 🚀

❓ What does a typical day look like for you as a Civil Apprentice at Dice?

'My day is usually filled with whatever tasks I can help out with. I often respond to comments, work on simple drawings, and assist with anything else that needs attention.'

❓ Since you started at Dice, have you noticed a change in the level of responsibility or complexity of your tasks?

'Absolutely. As I continue to learn and gain experience, the tasks I’m given have become more challenging. It’s rewarding to see that progression, and it really helps me grow in my role.'

❓ How have you been managing your work/life balance while working and attending university?

'I’ve found it easy to maintain a healthy balance. The work is manageable, and I still have plenty of free time to focus on other activities outside of work and study.'

❓ Do you get to work on a variety of projects across different sectors?

'Definitely. I get the chance to work on multiple projects each day, which keeps things interesting and allows me to experience a range of tasks and challenges.'

❓ How have you been welcomed into the Dice team?

'From day one, everyone has been incredibly welcoming. The team has made me feel right at home, and it's been easy to integrate into the work culture here.'

❓ What valuable knowledge have you gained since joining Dice?

'I’ve learned so much since I’ve been here, from technical skills like using CAD software to broader industry knowledge. Every experience has been valuable in helping me understanding the field better.'

We have been appointed to deliver the structural design for a new temple crematorium on behalf of @anoopam_mission_uk. 🙌

Working closely with @marchinicurranassociates, our team have thoughtfully engineered a steel frame structure, designed for robustness and efficiency while ensuring clear, open internal spaces for the ceremonial and communal areas.

The crematorium structure will incorporate a mezzanine floor, long-span trusses, and a braced steel stability system to accommodate both architectural vision and functional requirements.

As always, we have ensured sustainability has been considered throughout the project, with a focus on material efficiency and structural optimisation to minimise embodied carbon. The lighter truss-based roof design significantly reduces steel tonnage, lowering the environmental impact without compromising structural integrity. 🚀
