Dice are completing the Civil and Structural design for a new state of the art advanced manufacturing facility, with large external yard and access road.
Located near Coalville in Leicestershire, the new facility will further enrich this industrial estate and bring new job opportunities for local people, as well as potentially millions of pounds in revenue to the Leicestershire economy.
The new building will comprise of both a warehouse and an adjoining office space, with the warehouse accommodating space for 6 no. internal cranes, fabrication space and racking, and the office space including a reception area, a meeting room, a canteen and a locker room.
This commercial space will be bounded by a sheet piled retaining wall to the eastern extremity which will help to manage the site levels along the site boundary.
Our Services
Dice were appointed as engineers for the RIBA Stage 04 and 05 works, while the Dice Environmental team were also instructed to carry out a variety of geotechnical services and site investigations.
During the stage 04 technical design, our engineers developed the chosen structural scheme and the selected sub-structure solution, based on the findings of the full Interpretive Phase II ground investigation report. Various clay deposits with some gravel/sandstone were found during this ground investigation, so we worked piles and pile caps with in-situ reinforced concrete ground beams, into the proposed sub-structure solution.
The superstructure design consisted of a steel portal frame, as well as an affixed secondary supporting steel frame to accommodate a large 5 metre canopy to the west of the building.
We were also instructed to complete a range of civil and infrastructure services, including the design of foul and storm water private drainage networks.
A Phase 1 & 2 Geo-Environmental Site Investigation & Reporting with BRE 365 Infiltration Testing helped to inform foundation options, as well as address contaminated land planning conditions for the proposed development. Infiltration testing in accordance with BRE 365 also informed our Drainage Strategy and Flood Risk Assessment.
Following liaison with the structural team at Dice, Dice Environmental engineers then recommended Rotary Core Drilling to inform pile design, and CBR testing to inform pavement/parking design. Ground improvement techniques were specified to compact soft spots identified in the ground to enable pad foundations to be utilised.
