In a bid to consolidate all paediatric services to a single site, University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust required a new, state-of-the-art dedicated Children’s Hospital at the Leicester Royal Infirmary.
Key Features
Modern Methods of Construction (MMC).
Three-storey building with a link corridor between the new and existing buildings.
The new space will comprise a new cardiac ward, outpatient, diagnostic department, paediatric intensive care unit, cardiac theatre, catheter lab, ancillary rooms and parents’ accommodation.
A design concept based on alphabet building blocks on a prominent corner of the Kensington Building extension. Lit dramatically with a halo effect, the letters create an iconic face to the new hospital.
First floor extension creating two additional theatre spaces which run alongside the existing maternity theatre suite.
Existing ward space on the first level has then been refurbished to become the EMCHC ward.
Refurbishment carried out on a live clinical building which is operational 24/7.
