Graduate Civil Engineer

We are seeking an enthusiastic and driven individual to join our growing team in the role of Graduate Civil Engineer. The most suitable candidate will have a degree in a course relating to Civil Engineering or be expecting to graduate in Summer 2026 and will have aspirations of working towards chartership status (ICE preferred), with strong technical knowledge of civil engineering. We are looking for individuals who are passionate about the built environment and civil engineering.

The Graduate Structural Engineer will be responsible for the technical delivery of a portfolio of exciting projects including Healthcare, Commercial, Residential, Education and Higher Education, Leisure and Retail schemes, up to £60 million in value. The candidate’s primary location will be our Sheffield or Nottingham office, but with the benefit of flexible and agile working arrangements, with up to 3 days of home working arrangements, with up to 3 days of home working if desired.

• Responsibility for the delivery of feasibility, preliminary and detailed engineering design including full tender and construction packages.
• Attend project meetings alongside the Project Manager / Design Manager where required.
   
• Assist with the development of fee proposals & bids.
   
• Assist with project budgets and ensuring work is delivered on time and on budget.
   
• Assisting in consultation with clients, other staff members, and statutory bodies including Building Control, NHBC, Planning Authorities, Highway Authorities, Environment Agency, Statutory Undertakers etc.
   
• Developing a knowledge of the CDM Regulations and construction industry health and safety.
   
• Utilisation of various computer software programs which will include Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint), AutoCAD and more specialist software such as, Microdrainage, Site3D, Causeway FLOW, Line and Sign.
   
• Maintaining high technical standards consistent with the project design brief.
   
• Preparation of reports, calculations, modelling, and drawings including earthworks, drainage and highways with the intention of satisfying the project design brief.
   
• Assist with the development and implementation of Quality Systems associated with all civils projects.
   
• Undertake site visits associated with inspections and/ or site investigation works.
   
• Other duties may occasionally be required to support the needs of the business.

• Educated to degree level or expecting to graduate in Summer 2024 in Structural Engineering, Civil Engineering or an equivalent subject and/or level, with a minimum 2:1.
   
• Previous work experience relevant to civil or structural engineering is preferred but not essential.
   
• A dynamic work ethic and pro-active approach to problem solving.
   
• Aspiration to work towards chartered status with MICE, which will be fully supported on our graduate training programme.
   
• Knowledge of designing to European and British codes of practice.
   
• Possess excellent IT skills with proficiency in using spreadsheets and word software. Experience utilising other packages such as AutoCAD, Microdrainage, Site3D, Causeway FLOW, Line and Sign would be advantageous.
   
• Able to meet deadlines with strong organisational skills.
   
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, able to represent the business at client and wider design meetings where required.
