The new two-storey teaching block at South Nottinghamshire Academy will provide more classrooms, more office space and more welfare facilities, to accommodate space for an extra 150 pupils.
South Nottinghamshire Academy and Sixth Form is a teaching facility for children aged 11-18, based in the heart of Radcliffe-on-Trent. It is a part of the Redhill Academy Trust; a local, outstanding education provider with a proven track record of improving schools.
Rated by Ofsted as ‘Good’, South Nottinghamshire Academy moved into a brand new £10 million school in September 2016, before adding a £1.2 million sports hall 2 years later. They have now decided to enhance their facilities again by adding a brand new teaching block.

The Project
The new two-storey detached building houses several new classrooms, a couple of new computer classrooms, a study space, several offices, a seminar room, and welfare facilities. This new development is part of plans to provide space for 150 extra pupils, meeting increasing demand for secondary school places in the area over the next ten years.
The development plans provide the school community with a long-lasting, modern-day facility that enhances students' educational experience.
Our Services
Dice was instructed to undertake the detailed civil & structural design associated with RIBA work stages 01 – 06 respectively. We provided a superstructure and substructure and civil design, which includes the design of the steel frame system and below ground design.
Design Challenges
The foundation design was a challenge due to the levels experienced on site and requirement for a suspended ground floor and retaining walls for use below ground level. This particular challenge resulted in our engineers incorporating steps into the foundation proposals.
